The Wilderness is a side-mode in Reverse 1999 that allows the Timekeeper to create their own home base. Players can access the system through the Home-Screen after upon reaching Chapter 2: In Our Time.
Wilderness is where the Crew Members live. Paleohall, Dust Bell Tower, Sharpodonty Market & Wishing Spring buildings are given at the start. Players can obtain more buildings & islands through events or buying them from the Wilderness Shop.
Buildings, Islands and Hexagonal Tile System
Buildings and islands are items that can be placed within the players' Wilderness. The Wilderness is divided into hexagonal tiles, which are organized to create a grid-like adjoined hexagonal structure. Each empty hexagonal tile can host an island, can be either a ground tile or a water tile. Each island has a distinct theme, contributing by the game's aesthetic and storyline.
Buildings are items that must be placed on island tiles, bigger buildings occupy more island tiles than one, contributing to the Wilderness' Vigor system. Some buildings have unique features thematically or even generate resources. These items can be brought from the Wilderness Shop using Wilderness Shells or through limited-timed events.
Vigor
Is a stat exclusive to the Wilderness. Vigor increases the resource output of both Dust Bell Tower & Sharpodonty Market by up to 50%, and increase the Character Capacity by up to 5 at max. Players can place buildings & islands to increase the Wilderness' Vigor.
Characters
The player can place their obtained playable characters to stay in the Wilderness.
The player can host up to 14 maximum characters upon reaching the max boost given by the Vigor stat. Characters will slowly generate bond overtime while staying in the Wilderness. This bond can be collected by the player, which is indicated by the orange meter above the characters' heads. Once enough bond is reached, each character can be interacted, indicated by a square speech bubble with an exclamation point, to start a Wilderness Conversation for that character. Some characters may have another Wilderness Conversation once the max bond is reached.
Additionally, some characters can interact with other specific characters in the Wilderness. By clicking on them, the player can listen in on these interactions. Some characters also interact with specific buildings or islands, occasionally triggering special animations.
Layout Plan
The Layout plan allows the player to save the set-up of the Wilderness, saving placements of all islands and buildings, in one of the slots. Players can also copy and share a saved ID code of a saved Layout Plan, which can be used by other players in one of their save slots for their Wilderness.
